Reserve Police
The Northville Township
Police Department has fifteen (15) Reserve Officer positions. Our
Reserves come from all walks of life and join the Reserve program for
a variety of reasons. Some join because of a desire to serve the
community in which they live and have careers other than police work.
Most of our recent Reserves join this Department to start a career in
law enforcement. These persons have seen how this Department works and
how the Reserve program works within this Department. A big factor
seems to be that this Department hires some new regular officers from
the Reserve Officer ranks.
The Reserve Coordinator keeps a file of interested and
qualified persons for upcoming Reserve Officer positions. Get
applications at the Human Resource Office at the Finance Building.
When a position opens, the interested persons are notified. Once the
applications are reviewed, then an interview or oral board is
conducted. The selected person is then contacted and requested to
complete the hiring process that includes a background check.
The person selected to the
Reserve program will be supplied with all the required safety
equipment and necessary uniforms. The reserve officer will need to
supply their own firearm. The applicant will be sent to a 12 week
reserve training program 2 nights a week at Schoolcraft College. This
new Reserve Officer is then assigned to a reserve field training
officer to complete training. Once the reserve field training officer
signs off the reserve officer as successfully completing all the
required training, then this reserve officer is cleared to start
patrolling the streets of the Township with a full time officer.
