Happy Diwali - Tips for Celebrating
Posted on 11/07/2018
To those in our community who celebrate, we wanted to wish you a Happy Diwali.  We also wanted to remind you that per Fireworks Ordinance (mandated by the State of Michigan), you may not use fireworks as part of your celebration.  See more information below.

In 2017, the Charter Township of Northville modified its ordinance regarding fireworks to align with the Michigan Fireworks Safety Act. Northville Township ordinance 67-42 prohibits the ignition, discharge or use of consumer fireworks (1.4g) in the Township. However, per the Act, consumer fireworks are permitted to be used on the day before, the day of, and the day after a national holiday. During those days, consumer fireworks are prohibited between the hours of midnight and 8:00 a.m. In addition, sky lanterns or similar unmanned free-floating devices are prohibited at all times.

Consumer fireworks may be ignited, discharged or used on the day before, the day of, and the day after the following national holidays:
1. New Year's Day (January 1).
2. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day (third Monday in January).
3. Washington's Birthday (third Monday in February).
4. Memorial Day (last Monday in May).
5. Independence Day (July 4).
6. Labor Day (first Monday in September).
7. Columbus Day (second Monday in October).
8. Veterans Day (November 11).
9. Thanksgiving Day (fourth Thursday in November).
10. Christmas Day (December 25).
