Welcome & History
Welcome to Northville Youth Network! We love to share our story with the community and are pleased to introduce you to our programs and services.
As a community-funded social service organization, Northville Youth Network (NYN) has implemented successful resiliency-based education, leadership, prevention and intervention programming for the betterment of Northville’s youth and families for more than 30 years. NYN is a key member of the community’s safety net for young people and provides a variety of robust, caring, affirming, effective, and engaging programs and services in support of our kids and families.
NYN was established in 1987 under the shared services agreement between the Charter Township of Northville and the City of Northville. The program is overseen by a commission of appointed officials and residents from the City of Northville and Northville Township, as well as a representative of the Northville Board of Education.
Program administration is funded through the general fund of the City of Northville and a millage in Northville Township. Additional sources of funding and support include Wayne County for a portion of costs associated with diversion services; grants and gifts from local residents, businesses, and community organizations for special programs; and Northville Public Schools for program support, as well as in-kind donation of school building space where special programs are operated.
Vision & Mission
Our vision is a community where all Northville youth are supported and encouraged to develop resiliency and a positive sense of self. In pursuit of this vision, it is our mission to, in partnership with families, adult advocates, and community stakeholders, offer socially and culturally inclusive programs and opportunities for youth that foster physical, emotional, and social wellbeing helping them to reach their full potential as caring, productive, and responsible citizens.
Our Guiding Principals
It is essential for youth to develop healthy minds and bodies and tools to deal with challenging situations so that sound choices and positive physical and mental health strategies are utilized.
Positive relationships with peers and caring adults are essential to how young people function in society. Youth benefit from a sense of connectedness and belonging at home, school, and in our community, and flourish when they are regarded as respected and valued individuals.
All youth deserve respect, appreciation, and acceptance for their unique backgrounds, strengths, talents, and potential. NYN provides inclusive and culturally responsive services in safe, accepting, and barrier-free environments by staff and volunteers who are supportive, welcoming, and trustworthy.
Valuable stakeholders come from all segments of our community and NYN functions best when all are engaged in strategic and robust partnerships with a mutual focus on delivering support toward positive outcomes for our youth.
Integrity and responsible stewardship serve to guide policies and practices that ensure effective programs and services, protect, and safeguard the welfare of all participants, and appropriately preserve and manage all of our resources.
