The NYN Youth Action Board (YAB) provides youth the opportunity to develop leadership skills and work cooperatively among peers in service to the community. The YAB is open to all Northville youth in grades 6-12 and meets on a monthly basis during the academic year, with sub-committees meeting between if necessary. We want your input and participation, whatever that looks like to you! You can come to every meeting or just those that fit into your schedule. You can take the lead on an initiative or simply provide input. We just want you to share your time and talents with us and your participation level is up to you!
YAB PURPOSE
To help NYN provide meaningful programs and services that youth actually want and need in a way that they can best relate!
NYN implements all kinds of programs and services to support Northville youth. As adults, we often think we know what kids want and need and the best way to meet them. Often times we are right, but sometimes we miss the mark. That’s why it’s important to have youth voice in our programs and services. We want to know what type of support you and your peers want and need and we look to the YAB to provide us with that insight.
To help promote NYN programs and services among Northville youth.
NYN offers many programs, services, and events to support healthy youth development. YAB members help to promote these programming efforts by serving as ambassadors between NYN and their peers in their schools and community. They help to get the word out through announcements at their schools and social media, manning an info table in the school lunchroom, or simply wearing their YAB t-shirts in school and spreading the word among their peers about the types of support NYN can offer youth.
To provide members with opportunities to learn and develop their leadership skills.
We all have the capacity to lead, and we do so in many different and diverse ways. Taking the lead on YAB activities, volunteering to complete group tasks, organizing or participating in service projects the group does are just some of the ways members will learn new leadership skills and advance existing ones.
