A Safer Community

Partners in Your Safety is a crime prevention partnership. Law enforcement and residents work together to promote problem solving and create safer neighborhoods. Partners in Your Safety will empower individual neighborhoods with the resources and tools necessary to succeed in creating a safer community.

The vehicle to achieve this is through education. Participating neighborhoods will have the opportunity to achieve accreditation status upon completion of a series of program requirements.

The involvement of individuals residing in each neighborhood is vital to the success of this program. As residents become more involved, they will become aware of incidents and issues occurring in their neighborhoods. In turn, they will be able to move in a direction of crime reduction and prevention with the guidance and assistance of the Northville Township Police Department.

What Residents Can Expect

  • Reduce the risk of a crime
  • Neighborhood accountability
  • Neighborhood awareness
  • Develop a sense of empowerment
  • Enhanced neighborhood safety
  • Build a strong relationship with police
  • Safety seminars and techniques

Community Expectations

Partners in Your Safety is a crime prevention partnership. Participating neighborhoods, with the support of the Northville Township Police Department, will complete three phases of the program. They are:

Phase One:

  • Neighborhood meeting held to explain the program
  • Goals established and outlined for residents (i.e. meet two of your neighbors)

Phase Two:

  • Attend quarterly Partners in Your Safety meetings (1-hour long)
  • Participate in open communication and dialogue at meetings between residents and law enforcement representatives. Learn about crime trends, safety tips, potential issues for HOAs, community parks and more. Residents are encouraged to ask questions to better understand programs set in place by the Northville Township Police Department (i.e. Lock It or Lose It).
  • Empower residents to be the extra set of eyes and ears for law enforcement
  • Assist residents in understanding the importance of working with law enforcement for safer communities (including reporting suspicious activity to prevent crime, residential security measures, etc.)
  • Encourage residents to sign up for informative online applications (i.e. Nextdoor, Nixle, Ring Neighborhood) and reinforce the importance and effectiveness of the platforms as it relates to safety and crime reduction.
  • Attend crime prevention seminars/presentations hosted by the Northville Township Police Department. Minimum is two per calendar year (held every other month)

 Phase Three:

  • Post Partners in Your Safety signs provided by Northville Township Police at entrances of the neighborhoods (For homeowners associations participating in program)
  • Display Partners in your Safety sticker decals. They will be provided for residential windows/doors for individual community members participating in program
  • Earn awards. They will be provided for participants and most active members in the community
  • Continue open communication with law enforcement (At meetings and throughout the calendar year for crime prevention and safety.)
