Home MenuProperty and Evidence
Officers and detectives who respond to calls for service or crime scenes many times collect found items or evidence. The Northville Township Police Department maintains this property within the police department’s secure evidence room. Our property officers log, release, and audit property and evidence. Found property is held for up to 30 days for the owner to retrieve. All other property is held for six months, and if it is not claimed then can be returned to whomever found it or be destroyed or auctioned. Evidence from crime scenes may be held until the case comes to a completion, this can include the length of a criminal conviction or the general statute of limitations for prosecution.
