Based on the consistent presence of law enforcement in communities, the Police Department is often the first source of intervention in a mental health crisis. We recognize early intervention for mental health incidents may prevent a crisis from escalating and officers from having to use force. Our agency committed to taking a more proactive role to provide service in mental health incidents. The NTPD partnered with Hegira Health to provide professional mental health resources in the field when officers are unable to petition an individual for treatment.
