Northville Township wants to keep you in-the-know. There are multiple ways to stay up-to-date on the latest news, public safety information, boards and commission agendas, and can't-miss events happening in our great community.

Because we are mindful of keeping the environment green and working hard at containing costs, we’ve moved primarily to electronic newsletters (e-Newsletters), our website, social media (Facebook, Instagram and Twitter) and notifications. To sign up for many of them, visit our e-Notifications page.  

The Township organizes its communications into three categories: alerts, advisory and community. Which category we focus on to send the message depends on how timely and critical the information is.

What are the differences?

Alerts

Urgent and time sensitive. They require action on the part of you, the message receiver. When an alert incident occurs, we will communicate it via electronic and social media platforms at any anytime.

Examples

  • Gas leak
  • Severe weather (tornado warning)
  • Missing child
  • Active shooter
  • Boil water advisory

These types of alerts may be shared in the following ways:

  • Website news
  • Website banner
  • Nixle (To use Nixle by text or email, download the app or text your zip code to 888777.)
  • Facebook
  • Twitter
  • Press Release

Advisory

Important and time sensitive. Typically, the information will be delivered via Nixle and Twitter. Other social media platforms also will be used generally between 7 am and 9 pm.

Examples

  • Road closure/detour (impacting traffic)
  • School/Township Office closing
  • Police activity (home invasion, robbery)
  • Water main issue

These types of advisory updates may be shared in the following ways:

  • Website news
  • Nixle (text/email)
  • Facebook
  • Twitter
  • Press Release

Community

General information or non-urgent updates that are not time sensitive.

Examples

  • Tax bill format changes
  • Community-wide special events, i.e. Fire Department Open House
  • Election information
  • Household Hazardous Waste Day
  • Board and Commission meeting information
  • Flyers, brochures, etc.
  • General Police Department information
