Board Review
The Northville Township Board of Trustees serves as the policy-making body for Northville Township. The Board conducts meetings in accordance with the Michigan Open Meetings Act, 1976 PA 267.
Board Meeting Participation Guidelines
- Public hearing: Once the public hearing is declared open, Township residents are welcome to listen to the Board discuss items on the agenda. Residents will have an opportunity to express their views as well. After the public hearing has concluded, the Board may take action on each matter.
- Designated time is scheduled at all Board of Trustee meetings for comments from citizens under the agenda item titled, Brief Public Comment. Those who wish to make a comment may do so during the brief public comment period. Two minutes are allotted for each speaker; times are not transferrable.
- A brief public comment is an opportunity to comment. If the speaker seeks a discussion with the Board, where ideas are exchanged back and forth to gain more information, the commenter must schedule time with a Board member before or after the meeting. A discussion before the meeting is preferred to understand the reasoning behind the comments.
Meeting Participation Code of Courtesy
The Northville Township Board of Trustees respects the rights of residents to participate in the legislative process and encourages everyone to adhere to the following Code of Courtesy:
- Adjust the microphone to your height.
- Begin your comments by stating your name and address for the record.
- All public comments should provide a point of view, share a criticism or express a concern.
- Be considerate of others who wish to speak by limiting your comments to a reasonable length. The Supervisor may impose the two minute limit on individual comments when deemed necessary.
- The forum segment of the schedule may be restricted, subject to the Supervisor’s judgment.
- Be respectful of the process.
