Solid Waste Collection & Recycling
Our weekly service provider for curbside collection of trash and recyclable materials is Priority Waste, effective July 1, 2024. You may still see GFL Environmental trucks servicing totes over the next few months as the collection transitions to Priority Waste.
Priority Waste anticipates delays in yard waste service for the weeks of Nov. 4-8 and Nov. 11-15 due to the large volume of seasonal leaf disposal. Please continue to place items at the curb for pick-up on your scheduled day.
Contact Priority Waste directly for missed pickups, concerns/comments and questions regarding billing by calling (586) 228-1200, using the chat function on its website www.prioritywaste.com or email at NorthvilleTownshipLDC@Prioritywaste.com.
In an effort to keep our Township neat and clean, residents must use Township-provided 64- and 96-gallon refuse wheeled carts and recycling carts with hinged lids as part of the Township’s refuse hauling contract. Carts will be the property of Northville Township and must remain at the assigned property. Additional carts can be obtained by calling DPW at (248) 348-5819.
Collection of rubbish, recyclables and compostable for the Township is Monday through Thursday. Friday is open for delayed holiday week’s collection. Place your trash, composting and recycling at the curbside no earlier than 6 pm the day before your particular collection day or by 7 am on your collection day.
Per our current contract, rates from July 2024 to 2027 will be as follows:
Bills are sent biannually to cover periods January through June, and July through December. Bills are sent by the solid waste and recycling collection provider directly to residents in December for January-June services and in June for July-December services. Please contact Priority Waste directly for any billing issues at (586) 228-1200 extension 20 or email Billing@PriorityWaste.com.
The bill sent in June 2024 from GFL Environmental for July-December services is due upon receipt. Before July 15, 2024, pay the invoice to GFL Environmental. After July 15, the GFL portal will direct you to the Priority site where you can make payment. You may also pay your bill thorough the website www.prioritywaste.com. You can make a one-time payment with credit card or a checking or savings account (ACH) by using your GFL account number. Check payments can be mailed to:

Bulk/Large Item Pickup
Bulky items, such as a couch or appliance, can be placed curbside for disposal. Please call Priority Waste at (586) 228-1200 or email NorthvilleTownshipLDC@prioritywaste.com to submit a bulk item pickup request.
*This excludes large quantities for evictions and move outs. Please call Priority Waste to request quote for service.
Holidays
If a holiday falls on a Monday-Thursday, your pickup will be delayed by one day. The 2024 Holiday Solid Waste Collection Schedule is:
- New Year's Day
- Memorial Day
- Independence Day
- Labor Day
- Thanksgiving Day
- Christmas Day
Recycling
Recycling makes an impact on the environment by decreasing the amount of waste that ends up in our area landfills. Unfortunately, not every item can be recycled in the curbside pickup program.
Do NOT recycle:
- Grease-soaked cardboard (i.e., pizza boxes)
- Plastic bags
- Styrofoam
- Paint cans
How to Be a Good Recycler
You can contaminate an entire truckload of recyclables, sending the truckload to a landfill rather than a recycling facility, unless you take these important steps. To ensure they are recycled:
- Rinse and empty your item of any remaining product
- Remove labels and unrecyclable separate parts (example: caps from bottles)
- Avoid unaccepted items like a greasy pizza box or plastic bag
More Recycling Resources
Items that are not accepted for curbside pickup may still be recyclable. Please reference Michigan EGLE's recycling directory or Earth 911 for locations that will accept materials such as plastic bags, film, electronics, cell phone batteries and foam.
