If a loved one suddenly went into cardiac arrest would you know what to do? If the right equipment was available would you know how to use it?

  • CPR can double or triple a person's chance of survival, however, less than 1/3 of cardiac arrest victims receive bystander CPR.
  • Over 85% of all cardiac arrests occur in your own home. The life you save is most likely to be someone you love.
  • 70% of Americans do not know CPR.

As Advanced Life Support (ALS) providers, our department knows the importance of bystander CPR.

woman doing CPRWe currently offer adult Hands-Only CPR Training. Hands-Only CPR is CPR without mouth-to-mouth breaths. It is recommended for use by people who see a teen or adult suddenly collapse in an "out-of-hospital" setting such as at home, at work or in public. It consists of two easy steps:

  1. Call 9-1-1 (or send someone to call 9-1-1-).
  2. Push hard and fast in the center of the chest.

When you call 9-1-1, you need to stay on the phone until the dispatcher (9-1-1 operator) tells you to hang up. The dispatcher will ask you about the emergency such as the location. It is important to be specific, especially if you're calling 9-1-1 from a mobile phone, since those phones are not associated with a fixed location or address. Remember that answering the dispatcher's questions will not delay the arrival of help.

Let us teach you, your family, friends or employees how to react in an emergency. Our instructors conduct classes at the fire station, but are also available to instruct off-site for larger groups.
